THE BLACK GOLDFISH

I love these fish, when you see them close up they are so beautiful with their black velvet like bodies that almost glow gold on their underside and their long flowing fins. Time to find out a little about the Black Moor.

The Black Moor although is a species of goldfish as the name suggests it is black and this is the only colour you will find them. These fish have an egg shape like body and big protruding eyes. They are one of a variety of fancy goldfish species.

The Black Moor is an easy fish to keep and a pretty tough fish, their one downside is that their eyes although are big they don’t work that well. They haven’t got very good eyesight so they are not very good at competing with other more competitive fish for food. So you need to be careful when choosing fish to share with the Black moor. Some say that they are better off in aquariums rather than ponds but I don’t agree. I had one in a pond many years ago with a variety of other goldfish and the Black Moor was the longest resident in my pond at the time, it out lived all the other fish several times over.

The Black Moor is not a fussy eater and will eat all types of flakes and pellets as well as frozen shrimp and bloodworms. If you are thinking about keeping Black Moors then you may want to consider whether they are a fish that will be suitable for your pond and the other fish that will be sharing with them. Although I had no problems with my Black Moor years ago, I have not kept any since.

The Black Moor is worth checking out even if you do not decide to keep any as they are such a beautiful fish, so go take a look at some.
