THE COMET
These fish are great looking fish with their slender bodies and that great long flowing tail fin. They are certainly a fish that is pleasing to the eye and are worthy of finding out about, so lets take a quick look at the Comet.
The Comet was supposedly first bred in the united states and was developed from the common goldfish. You can tell it from the common goldfish by its long flowing tail fin. They are quite easy to keep and are suitable for cold water aquariums as well as garden ponds. They do thrive in garden ponds and can grow to a good size, in the past I have had a couple that grew to about 6 inches but they can reach double that size. The comet goldfish is an active fish that is a fast swimmer and always seems to be busy darting about, they are also fine living alongside other species of fish.
There are a few types of comet and they differ mainly by there colours and markings as they all have the great tail fin. These fish are not fussy when it comes to their diet, they will eat all types of flakes and pellets and will feed off of pond life. They will breed as long as your pond is well kept and this will happen in early spring as the water temperature rises after the cold winter months.
The Comet Goldfish is definately a fish to consider in your pond, its active, not hard to keep, not a fussy eater, mixes well with other fish types and best of all it is a great looker. The comet is an exciting fish that you should go and checkĀ out, I know they won’t disappointed you.
I shall look at another type of Goldfish in my next post, in the meantime check out the Comet.
