koi Pond Garden
If you are one of the many people that want to keep Koi, then you will love your finished pond stocked with this great fish. So we need to look at what these fish desire when it comes to constructing a home for them and also what we desire from the whole experience.
Koi need room, especially if they are going to flourish. So the larger you can make your pond the better and to go with that size you need depth, around 1.5 metres is a good depth. Most Koi keepers forget the plants because they get eaten by the little monsters and they can certainly eat so the filter system is important, because with all that food consumed comes a lot of waste. To enjoy these fish to the full we are striving for the ultimate in clear clean water.
Koi can become tame and you will enjoy the fact that they will feed from your hand. Koi are said by some to be difficult to keep but as long as you have the right conditions then they are not difficult.
On the subject of safety keep in mind that if you are going for a large Koi pond then consider if there will be children either your own or family and friends who will be around the pond, remember they are deep and therefore more dangerous than a normal pond which tend to have ledges.
If all these things are understood and managable then it is time to start thinking about the location of the pond. This is where it gets exciting, but make sure you spend the time to pick the spot that will benefit both the fish and your enjoyment. Think about water supply and electricity supply being close to where the pond will be situated.
Try and look at as many Koi ponds as you can before you start on your own, whether in pictures or if you can find some local to where you live, obviously the latter being the more ideal. This will give you ideas on your own pond.
