Oranda
A POPULAR GOLDFISH
The Oranda goldfish is a very popular fish and it is quite a large fancy type goldfish. We should take a look at the famous oranda goldfish.
The Oranda is another fancy goldfish with an egg shaped body with a flowing four piece tail fin. This fish wears a hat on its head or looks like it does, I think this is one of its characteristics that make it such a popular choice with fish keepers. This growth on its head is known as a Wen and develops as this fish grows.
Many say as they do of the Black Moor and other fancy goldfish that they are better off in aquariums than ponds but again I disagree, these fish are quite hardy and do well in ponds. They can reach up to 12 inches in size and are OK with other fish. Again like the other Fancy’s it is said not a good idea to put them with active fish for the same reasons of food competition.
One of the most appealing things about the Oranda is the amazing different varieties of colour that you find them in and this is probably another reason why people love them. From orange to orange and white, red and orange, red and white, black and white, black and red, there is even blue (like the one in the picture above) or a whole combination of these colours together. They really come in some great combinations. My favourite is a white one with an orange or red Wen they look fantastic.
The diet of the Oranda is pretty much the same as any goldfish, flakes, pellets and shrimps and bloodworms.
So the choice is yours, do you think you might add in a few Oranda’s in your pond. If not it is still worth having a look at some just for their variety of colours. They really are beautiful fish.
