Pond A Few Tips

There are many things to think of when you are thinking of building a pond. How ever obvious that something might seem, it is easy to overlook or forget them. So I thought I would point out some of the obvious.

The only thing to do before you start digging a big hole in your garden is to set out a plan of your Impending Pond. One of the first things to consider before you start and a very important subject it is too, is safety. You have to make sure that your pond is safe within your garden, here is an earlier post about this Subject.

Then you need to think about what you want your pond to look like and what you want to include in or around it, this is all about design. There are some simple things you need to consider when you think about design. It is not just about aesthetics it is also about being practical.

Think about some of the things you will need to do once your pond is completed. You may have to top up your water level occasionally, so do you want to be carrying buckets of water any kind of distance because there is no water supply near your pond. So think about laying a water pipe to near the location of the pond to make life easier in the future.

The same goes for electricity, there are several pieces of equipment that you will be using that are going to need an electricity supply. You don’t want leads trailing across your garden (think about safety), so get a supply near to the pond location.

Make sure you get your edges level, this looks terrible if you haven’t taken care to get your pond level. One end has water to the top and the other end is showing several inches of liner, apart from the fact it doesn’t look great the end showing the liner is going to be exposed to the sun. Not great for the liner.

These are just a few obvious tips to remember when you are building a pond, better to do them up front that try and put them right afterwards.
