Waterfall
THE POND WATERFALL
What better sight or sound is there then a waterfall. Added to a pond the gentle sound of the flowing water is certainly a relaxing one..
A waterfall is a great addition to a pond and well worth considering before you actually start to build your pond as it is easier to incorporate it from the beginning rather than add it later. Having said that it is possible to add a waterfall to an existing pond. It can take a bit of effort to build a waterfall but once done is worth it and will be enjoyed for years.
So what sort of things are there to consider when you are thinking about a waterfall for your pond. The first thing to consider is the pump size as the pump will have to do more work to get the recycled water to the top of a waterfall. So if you are building a waterfall at the same time as your pond then take this into account and if you are adding a waterfall to an existing pond then you may need to upgrade your pump depending on how high your waterfall is going to be. As we have mentioned height of the waterfall, there is something else to consider, If you have a gentle decent of flowing water from your fall then it will be quieter than if you have a steep fall which will be noisy especially during the dead of the night. You may want to take your neighbours into consideration here.
You can buy preformed waterfalls or you can decide to build your own using a pond liner. What does look good around a waterfall is a rockery with shrubs and plants, as theses become established the waterfall will look more and more natural. The waterfall should be shut off in the winter months as the constant flow of water will lower the water temperature.
A waterfall is a great addition to any pond, so if you want one then go for it.
