POND WILDLIFE

If you have created a pond in your garden then well done. You have created an important sanctuary for many wildlife that will love the pond you have provided for them.

So once our pond has established itself it will start to attract many a visitor, some of which will stay longer than others. Lets start off with the small ones, these are ones that you will have to look out for as they might not be obvious.

Some little fellas that may move into your pond are water boatmen, snails, water beetles and skaters. Some that will visit on a regular basis are mayflies, dragonflies and damselflies. These are all wonders of nature that you have provided a place for to visit or live and with so many of nature species under threat these days this has got to be a great thing.

Some bigger fellas that may check in to your pond are newts which are part of the salamander family and look a bit like a lizard. Frogs may use your pond and its always great to see and hear a frog, they are known for laying their frogspawn in ponds. Toads are another visitor you may spot at your pond.

Then you have got the even bigger visitors which are the different species of birds that will visit to pick at the many insects that live at the pond.

So to build a pond is a great contribution to your local wildlife, in my opinion there are not enough ponds around and if there were more ponds then it would play an important part in our environment and the wildlife that lives in it. So if you are only thinking about a pond then stop thinking and get on a create a great sanctuary for your local wildlife and a great feature for you to enjoy.
